On July 11, 2012 core team members of the War Prevention Initiative Al Jubitz and Patrick Hiller, as well as invited guest Jim McCobb met with New York Times Top 10 Bestseller Karl Marlantes in Seattle. He is the author Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War and the recently published non-fiction work What It Is Like To Go To War.
Based on Marlantes’s personal experiences during and after the Vietnam War as a member of the Marine Corps, his works are considered highly valuable to soldiers and civilians trying to understand the human experience of participating in war.
We were grateful to be able to share our ideas on War Prevention and hear perspectives from a former soldier helping us to broaden our understanding of the long-lasting consequences of combat on individuals, their families and the larger society – on all sides of the conflict.
