Rotarian Action Group For Peace

Founded by Al Jubitz and led by of War Prevention Initiative Core Team member Erin Thomas the so-called “Rotarian Action Group For Peace” was formed in 2012 as a group of Rotarians, recognized by Rotary International, focused on providing a network and resources to further the peace and conflict resolution work of Rotarians around the globe.

The organization’s mission is to serve as a resource to Rotarians, Rotary clubs and districts by supporting the peace work of Rotarians worldwide.

Are Rotarians ready?

"Making Peace" - the title of the February 2012 Rotarian Magazine suggests Rotary International is ready for a broad orientation toward peace building. When asked about the direction Rotary should take, President Elect Tanaka clearly suggests that of peace. The idea is certainly not far-fetched. Creating peace is a process. Rotarians are doers and there is a significant role for them in the big picture of peace building. The magazine shared heartening stories of Rotary Peace Fellows who take themselves out of their comfort zone into conflict hotspots such as Kirghistan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia or Sudan, post-conflict regions like Cambodia or Sierra Leone, or who simply are engaged in violence prevention efforts in inner cities or in relation to children. These peace builders and Rotarians worldwide are involved in what is called creating positive peace or peace with justice.

Peace Is...

What if we started thinking about Rotary as more than a collection of service clubs and started thinking of ourselves as a global peace building force?

The Rotarian Action Group for Peace in its own words
The Rotarian Action Group for Peace is an action-driven group of Rotarians, Rotarians’ spouses and Rotaractors working together for the purpose of advancing peace and preventing wars throughout the world. The Rotarian Action Group for Peace provides an official entity that empowers and supports the peace work of Rotarians by offering structure, guidance and resources to further their peace efforts. Rotary already has a strong commitment to peace, and our organization will forge a path for existing Rotary peace programs, such as the Rotary Peace Fellows, to become involved directly with Rotarians.
